Places to
hear beach/shag music locally
Unfortunately aside from our own BBC night, there aren't too many places to
hear beach & shag music locally, but here are a few suggestions:
1) Every Sunday night,
local radio station 95.9 FM broadcasts a syndicated beach show from 6-9 pm
called Coast to Coast Beach Favorites. Check it out!
2) Every Saturday tune
into Larry Williams Beach Party Live Radio Show airing on WFOS 88.7 FM
in the Virginia Beach area or online at
www.cpschools.com and click on WFOS Live Radio
. Be sure to call in your request or dedication at 757-547-1036.
Music Format at
BBC
There always seems to be a great difference of opinion regarding the
definition of "beach music." Many have tried to define it. I make
no such attempt here! Let me suffice it to say that our music format is
predominantly a rhythm and blues style, characteristic of Carolina beach music
from the 50's and 60's; however, we are not an oldies club. Most of the music
played at our club consists of "new" releases made over the past decade,
purchased from music vendors in the southern Carolina states, and often
referred to as "beach music". Typically this involves music which is
anywhere from 100-130 beats per minute and thus "shaggable." It also
involves music from many different "genres" such as R&B, Motown,
contemporary and even country - as long as the beat is danceable. Come on
out and experience it for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
Our DJ's
Our DJ's do their
best to provide an assortment of music that everyone will enjoy. If however,
you find that you would prefer to hear something else, by all means make a
request. Our DJ's are quite knowledgeable and accommodating! Do keep in mind
that most of our members shag or swing though and thus the focus is on playing
music to suit the dancers' needs.
Our DJ's are members of the Association of Beach and Shag Club
DJ's.
